TGDC Engages Sumitomo Corporation in Tokyo to Strengthen Geothermal Investment in Tanzania

Tokyo, Japan – As part of the ongoing Tanzania Investment Promotion Mission, the Tanzania Geothermal Development Company Limited (TGDC) held a strategic meeting today with Sumitomo Corporation at the United Nations University Headquarters in Tokyo.
The meeting focused on enhancing collaboration in Tanzania’s energy sector, with particular emphasis on the geothermal industry. TGDC's General Manager, Eng. Mathew Mwangomba, led the delegation and highlighted the country’s vast geothermal potential as a sustainable energy solution.
During the engagement, Eng. Mwangomba presented TGDC’s current projects and requested grant support, particularly for early-stage project planning, development, and project management. He emphasized the need for greater technical and financial partnership to accelerate geothermal development in Tanzania.
“This is the time to act on clean energy,” said Eng. Mwangomba. “Tanzania is ready for deeper collaboration and welcomes international investment to unlock our geothermal resources for long-term, sustainable growth.”
The meeting is part of broader efforts by the Government of Tanzania to promote investment opportunities across key sectors, positioning the country as a reliable partner for clean energy development.
