Natron Geothermal Prospect

Arusha Region

The Natron Geothermal Project is located in the Arusha Region, south of the Kenyan Rift within the Natron-Magadi Rift Basin. The prospect is currently at the reconnaissance study stage, with plans to advance it through detailed surface exploration to assess its geothermal potential. Following successful exploration and resource confirmation, the project is planned to progress through the subsequent phases of geothermal development, with a target of generating 60 MW of geothermal power.

Luhoi Geothermal prospect

Pwani Region

The project is located in Rufiji District in Coast Region. A detailed surface study for this project was completed in June 2017 with technical support from the ICEIDA/Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iceland. Currently, the project is under preparation to confirm the existence of the geothermal resources through a test drilling programme which will involve the drilling of three (3) slim wells and one (1) full-size well. Upon successful resource confirmation, the project will be advanced to subsequent development stages for geothermal power generation and direct-use applications

Songwe geothermal prospect

Songwe

The Songwe Geothermal Project is another strategic project implemented by TGDC, located in Mbozi District, Songwe Region. A detailed surface study of the prospect was completed in September 2016 with support from UNEP/ARGeo, followed by additional surface investigations in 2018 in collaboration with the East African Geothermal Energy Facility (EAGER). The project is currently at the resource confirmation stage, with plans to drill three (3) slim wells and one (1) full-size well to verify the existence and viability of the geothermal resource. Upon successful resource confirmation, the project will be advanced through the conventional stages of geothermal development, culminating in the generation of 5 MW of geothermal power and the implementation of associated direct-use applications.
